Department of Health Sciences

Welcome to the Department of Health Sciences, one of six departments at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. We encompasses education and research within the field of health science in close collaboration with general health care, regional authorities and the surrounding society. Our department carries out research that covers all age groups – from the tiniest, yet unborn, babies to the oldest among the elderly.

About the department

Health sciences research is all about improving people’s health and quality of life. Our main areas of research are:

  • Prevention
  • Therapy
  • Health and social care
  • Rehabilitation

The research is essential not only from the point of view of the individual but also from a social perspective, since good research within this field can be expected to lead to better healthcare. 


The departmental board is the highest decision-making body, and is led by the head of the department. The departmental office is a support and service function for the departmental management and for the organization, with regard to human resources, finance, administration and communication.
