Department of Health Sciences
The Department of Health Sciences (IHV) is one of six departments within the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University. We are based at Forum Medicum in Lund. Our research and education are rooted in people’s needs – from the yet unborn babies to the very elderly – and aim to improve health, quality of life and participation at various levels of society.
About the department
Our research aims to understand, explain and improve people’s health and quality of life, and is carried out across a range of disciplines. Much of this research takes place within interprofessional research groups, often in close collaboration with the healthcare sector and/or local authority services. This enhances the potential for the rapid implementation of research results in clinical and other relevant settings. Interest groups are also involved in many of our research projects.
Our staff teach and are responsible for various educational programmes at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as contract education. The department also offers postgraduate research programmes.
We engage with the wider community in various ways, for example through different networks and interest groups.

The department is organised into interdisciplinary research groups and is led by a department board, comprising the head of department, representatives of teaching staff and researchers, other staff, student representatives and representatives from the health and medical care sector. The head of department has overall responsibility for the department’s activities and is supported by a management team. The department’s research groups report directly to the head of department, which ensures short decision-making channels and close academic collaboration.
The Departmental Office provides support and services to the departmental management and the department’s operations, with responsibilities in the areas of human resources, finance, administration and communications.
