How we work with innovation and external engagement

Development together with the life science industry and society

Lund University’s Faculty of Medicine is an important part of the life science cluster in the Öresund region and the surrounding community.

Through development in start-ups, incubators and small companies, our innovations and research findings take gradual steps towards societal benefit and commercial use. In several cases, this happens in research and industrial parks close to our activities in Lund and Malmö - Ideon Science Park, SmiLe and Medicon Village in Lund, and Medeon in Malmö.

In a broader perspective, interest in our research extends to collaborations with small companies and large holdings, both nationally and internationally.

Collaboration with other higher education institutions, within and outside the country, and the public healthcare service within counties and municipalities, are also important parts of research and its utilisation. Together with Skåne University Hospitals and Region Skåne, new treatment methods and clinical trials are implemented within public healthcare organisations.

Medicon Valley Alliance

Lund University is a member of the Medicon Valley Alliance which links together higher education, public organisations and business and industry in the Öresund region.

Doctoral student or young academic?  Through us you can find your path into the life science sector

All doctoral students have the opportunity to learn more about external engagement in an optional course component: how can I work with innovations and how do I generate the most possible benefit from my research project? During the course component, doctoral students will reflect on their own role in this process.

As a doctoral student or junior researcher at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, you also have access to our careers centre. Among other things it is responsible for the mentor programme MentLife. The purpose of the programme is to increase your knowledge about career opportunities in the life science sector.

Except from individual meetings with your personal mentor, the programme provides a unique opportunity to expand your network, by meetings and contacts with other participants and their mentors. The MentLife programme also offers contact interfaces with life science companies.

Morover, the careers centre arranges an annual career opportunity day in collaboration with Medicon Village.

Contract education – professional development for your employees

Our employees have both knowledge of the latest research findings and insight into everyday clinical work. We convert this into professional development courses in medicine and health. The courses can be of a general or complementary nature, and we also offer highly specialised courses focused on specific professional categories.
